AMERICAN fast-food restaurant Wendy’s is set to open one of its first UK branches in Oxford.
The popular burger chain in the US, known for its square-shaped burgers, will open its doors at 1 Magdalen Street.
The unit next to Debenhams and Flying Tiger used to be the shoe shop Schuh before it relocated to the Westgate Centre.
The news was first announced in February after planning permission was put to Oxford City Council to change the use of the building and give the shopfront a facelift with the Wendy’s iconic red and blue logo.
But in a look at the progress yesterday, the shop was empty and everything in the unit has been stripped away.
It is understood that Wendy’s will be swinging open the doors to its first UK restaurant in Reading on June 2 with the Oxford shop to open later this year.
A third chain will open in Stratford too.
