A beekeeper has teamed up with a Wood School to make a new style of beehive, while helping to improve the skills and employability of students.
Designed in Drayton by beekeeper Andrew Bax and built in Long Wittenham by the Sylva Foundation Wood School, the Drayton Beehive features among exhibits at the environmental and forestry charity Sylva Foundation during Oxfordshire Artweeks later this month.
The hybrid hive is horizontal and raised on legs, reducing the risk of back strain. Built of oak and cedar, it protects bees from extremes of temperature.
Mr Bax said the "skill and craftsmanship" of the Sylva Wood School had transformed a functional design into a beehive of "exceptional elegance”.
