On national Hug A Shed and Take a Selfie Day on Wednesday, Chipping Norton legend Kevin Nicks - creator of the world record-holding fastest shed – swept into the driveway at Southerndown care home in Chippy in his motorised outhouse.

Mr Nicks took time to chat to residents and explained how he built the shed in 2015 and how it has been used to break the Guinness World Records land speed record for sheds three times.

He said at the heart of the shed is a Volkswagen Passat with Quattro four-wheel drive, which Mr Nicks refitted with a 450-horsepower V6 twin-turbo Audi RS4 engine.

He added that the shed is totally roadworthy and he always abides by the national speed limit – unless he’s on a race track where the shed has a top speed of 114mph.

Ela Solomon, general manager at Southerndown, said: “Our residents took it in turns to have a selfie with the shed and we can’t thank Kevin enough for making our day so special.

“Our home offers a varied life enrichment programme that keeps residents active, and provides a daily choice of engaging physical, mental and spiritual activities tailored to residents’ interests and abilities.

"Kevin and his visiting shed certainly brightened their wet Wednesday.”
