RESIDENTS in Witney have been excited about the idea of getting a new indoor skatepark in the area.

There are around 23 outdoor skateparks scattered across Oxfordshire - all with a mixture of metal and concrete ramps in fields.

But the nearest indoor place to practice is Swindon at ATBShop Skate Warehouse and Skatepark.

Writing on the Spotted Witney Facebook page, one anonymous user teased the idea of setting up a brand new skatepark in the county

They said: "Looking to see if there would be any interest in an indoor skatepark in or around the Witney area.

"Just looking for thoughts and comments really. What do you think?"

Nearly 40 people said they would back the idea - hailing it as as a great place young people to congregate, parents and anybody looking to do 'exciting' exercise.

One mum-of-three said: "Yes, yes, yes. Also a decent bike track would be awesome."

Jamie Wotherspoon said: "We go to Rush and Adrenaline Alley. The Front in Weymouth is great too. Would be happy to help in anyway I could to get this up and running."

Richard Bustin said: "Oh yes. We travel to Rush skate park in Stroud all the time but sadly it's closing in June."

Amber Cumberland added: "The only skate park in Witney has about three ramps and is so dangerous because of such little children playing there. An indoor skatepark with a monthly membership or organised sessions and even designated areas would be so brilliant for so many people.

"Witney seriously needs this. Plus it doesn't matter if you skateboard, roller skate, bike or ride a scooter they're all much more entertaining as exercise than just going to a regular gym."

Maria Frindle suggested an empty warehouse on Station Lane, explaining: "We use one in Cornwall and it's fantastic. Also has a cafe with a table tennis table and TV in it for the parents."
