The garden is committed to educating people about the importance of plants, to help conserve plants from around the world, and to support teaching and research within Oxford University and beyond.

Visitors must pre-book a time slot and although a typical visit lasts around an hour and a half, to ensure that the maximum number of people can enjoy the sites safely people are asked to spend no more than two hours visiting.

Another Oxfordshire attraction that is open to visitors this weekend is Blenheim Palace.

Its park and gardens are open for groups of either six people or two households, but the palace is closed until further notice.

To keep everyone safe and manage volumes, Blenheim is re-introducing ticket checks at key locations around the park and visitors must pre-book.

From May 6, people will be ale to enjoy a classic movie on the big screen in the comfort of their car on the grounds as The Luna Drive In Cinema returns to the site.

All indoor exhibits are closed, such as the Reptile House and Invertebrate House but its adventure playground ‘Skymaze’ will be open.

There is a maximum capacity of tickets available each day, so tickets must be booked online the day before your visit.

E-tickets go on sale from midnight to 11.59pm.

Oxfordshire County Council’s public health director, Ansaf Azhar, is reminding people of the importance of continuing to follow Covid safety guidelines as they venture out this Bank Holiday.

He said: “Of course another major factor in keeping Covid at bay is abiding by the rules. Please don’t get bored with keeping the required distance from others, washing your hands regularly, wearing a face covering and not meeting in large groups.

“We are still consolidating our position in respect to Covid. Every single act of care and caution keeps Covid on the back foot and every time someone does those simple basic things they are playing their part in countering Covid. Please keep it up – it is working.

“The bank holiday weekend will provide temptations to stray beyond the national roadmap rules as they currently stand. Please don’t – let’s play it safe and keep Oxfordshire open.”
