SMOKE has filled the sky in Culham after a major fire near the science centre.

People nearby heard three loud explosions this afternoon at around 2.45pm.

One person said that Oxfordshire Fire Service had warned neighbours to keep their windows and doors closed because plastics are thought to be involved.

Videos from the scene show thick black clouds of smoke from behind the trees into the area.

One witness, who works nearby said: "We could smell burning but could not work out where it was coming from.

"Then the loud explosions which vibrated through our unit, as if something had fallen into it. Then the smoke got worse, from a haze to a thick black smoke billowing out from the science park area. With the explosions we thought it was the firework company, but it wasn't."

He said there had been fire engines at the scene for the afternoon.
