Roger Allam, who plays DI Fred Thursday in Oxford-based TV drama Endeavour, has been cast as tycoon Robert Maxwell in a new film called Tetris.

The actor, 67, plays the disgraced proprietor Robert Maxwell in the Jon S Baird directed film, which portrays the making of the popular computer game and the subsequent legal battle over its ownership.

Mr Allam has been filming scenes in Oxford for series eight of Endeavour, alongside Shaun Evans who plays the title role.

Last month scenes for the popular ITV series were shot in the city centre while earlier they took place in the park in Wellington Square and in Holywell Street.

It is possible that the latest episodes could be the last although this has not yet been confirmed.

The Endeavour series follows the Inspector Morse and Lewis TV dramas and started in 2012.

Head of ITV programme publicity Janice Troup said earlier: “We are filming another series this year and as previously we will be filming in Oxford."

Roger Allam taking on new projects could be an indication that this latest Endeavour series is to be the last.

Anthony Boyle, Togo Igawa and Toby Jones also star in Tetris, with filming starting in Glasgow in December. Scenes were also filmed in Aberdeen.
