Witney and West Oxfordshire foodbank has received a £500 donation from a homebuilder.

The bank, which has tripled its services during the pandemic, is close to two developments by David Wilson Homes.

It has distributed over 611 food parcels and helped over 1,606 people since 2019.

Treasurer Katrina Jenkins  said: “It is a difficult time for many organisations, and we were very grateful to David Wilson Homes for their donation. There are so many deserving charities that are doing a wonderful job, so to be chosen was a real morale boost.”

The bank, which caters for a variety of dietary requirements and provides some pet food as well as toiletries, has incurred additional costs because of PPE requirements.

It has also recently started a delivery service which requires two volunteers to visit a client due to safety rules but travelling in separate cars because of Covid regulations.

Dominic Harman, managing director of David Wilson Homes Mercia, said: “As one of the UK’s leading developers, it is really important that we support the community in the areas in which we build.

“Witney and West Oxfordshire Foodbank is working hard to support their clients and volunteers, and we are happy to support them with a £500 donation."

“We wish them the best of luck for the upcoming months, and in difficult times like these we’re encouraging more people to support their local community.”
