Bullnose Morris to remain closed after Greene King confirm 'error'

The Bullnose Morris was shut down by its leaseholders, pub giant Greene King, in September last year, however, yesterday on the pub’s website an announcement was posted saying that the pub was ‘making a comeback’.

The announcement said that the pub would be reopening for indoor bookings from May 17 onwards, and outdoor bookings from April 12 - when lockdown eases.

It also gave people the option to ‘book a table’.

But Greene King confirmed that the announcement was posted in error.

The message has now been amended, and states that the pub will be ‘closed for now but our comeback awaits’ and ‘good things come to those that wait’.

A spokesperson for the pub chain said: “There are currently no updates on the Bullnose Morris.”

Last month, it was revealed that the popular pub could soon be preserved as a community assets under new plans being considered by the parish council.

City Councillor Rae Humberstone is currently assessing the Bullnose's future as a community asset.

Mr Humberstone, who has discussed the matter with parish council Clerk Emma Kearney and parish council chairman Robert Davies, said while nothing is set in stone yet, he and the parish council would be keen to hear the publics thoughts on applying for the pub to be considered as a community asset.

He said: “I have been thinking for a long time now that the Bullnose Morris would be the ideal example of what could be a community asset.

“Nothing concrete has been done, nothing has gone forward yet, we need to gather more opinions.

“We haven’t been helped by lockdown as we haven’t been able to go door-knocking to see what people think.”

The Bullnose first opened on Blackbird Leys in 1966 and is one of only two pubs situated on the estate.
