TRIBUTES have been paid to an Oxford firefighter who has died.
Steve Briggs, who was known as Doughy, died after a long battle with an illness, Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue have reported.
He had worked on Blue Watch at Rewley Road Station before he was promoted to different roles in the Brigade.
After retiring, Mr Briggs worked for the fire and rescue service Driving School.
Taking to social media, his colleagues said: "A larger-than-life character, Doughy brought a smile to everyone's faces and brightened any room.
"He will be sorely missed.
"Our sincere condolences to Lindsey and all of Steve’s family from all of us here at Rewley Road."
