A PETITION against the LTN scheme in Cowley and Littlemore has received almost 2,000 signatures.

The Low-Traffic Neighbourhoods were introduced by the county council earlier this month, but their implementation has divided locals.

Road blocks were put up in Church Cowley, Temple Cowley, and Florence Park as part of a six-month trial.

While some residents feel the new scheme is positive and has created safer streets for children, less traffic pollution and less noise, others are furious.

Here is what you said about it:

Iony Evans: “For the first time in ages my kids now feel safer cycling to school. No more near-misses from speeding cars, no more bullying car pushing to get through endangering a six-year-old on a bike to school, school run is less stressful and worrying, kids are physically fitter, the environment is better protected. There are other alternative routes to drive around.”

Dermot Nolan: “No, I like them. Road is quieter and safer.”

Pete Kitching: “But surely it is called a ‘road’ for a reason! Open it up again!”

Andrew Henderson: “The majority think it is an ill thought out and badly implemented scheme and is very unpopular.”

Debbie Shayler: “What about the children that live on the roads that are now getting all the extra traffic? Do they mean less to those in LTN streets? What about the children in the primary school just off the bridge? Do they mean less than those that go to Church Cowley?”

Matt Mitchell: “Being as 2,000 people are killed and 100.000 seriously injured by drivers in the UK every year I would say it would be much better to teach people to drive properly.”

Kelly Hook: “I will sign it! Paramedics are not able to get to patients quick enough because of this stupidity!”

Vikki Davies-Smith: “Why don't they put one box, so cars can still travel these routes but have to slow down and give way more? That way kids will be safer and emergency vehicles will be able to tend to incidents? This is just a thought.”

Patricia Fontaine: “They should get themselves proper work to do like clearing the gutters. When rain falls people can walk through the streets especially next to the Temple Cowley health centre. Get a proper plan to eradicate this waste waters.”

Jim Barrett: “Roads are much quieter and safer in Littlemore now but middle bollards need replacing with censored bollards that go up and down for emergency services like for buses at the back end of John Radcliffe Hospital and some city centres like Didcot have for buses. So, I will not be signing any petition for removal.”

Patricia Donohue: “The Co-op that was doing really well on the corner of Bartholomew Road is losing a lot of money as it is safer for people to shop rather than the grotty Cowley centre. Remember this when voting.”

Shelly Mccann Fraser: “I have seen cars still going down these roads. Should be tougher, not less.”

Liam Pike: “I am not sure that 2,000 people live on that street.”

John Lee: “I noticed that someone had driven over the bollard and flattened it in Crowell Road. Probably by someone from out of town who did not see the black bollard at night!”

Peter Brackett: “I saw an ambulance in an emergency struggling to get down the Cowley Road as all the traffic is sent that way now. It is a crazy idea shutting all these streets off.”

Paul Radburn: “Why was it put there in the first place if nobody really wants it?”

Linda Sylvester: “Whoever thought of this must be mad they need to get out more in the real world.”

John Jenkins: “Good thinking Oxford – how would a disabled driver get out to move the barriers, I wonder?”

Kevin Chamberlain: “If people would have stuck to the 20mph speed limit it may have never come to this.”

Laura Hopkins: “I really worry about emergency vehicles accessing these properties.”
