STEPHEN Fry and Jeremy Paxman are just two of the familiar faces who have turned themselves into a tree for a school project.

Their imitations of trees is part of a virtual event, being hosted by Cheney School in Headington.

Cheney 2050 was launched by the Rumble Museum, based at the school.

The event features an ideas wall, which was updated by students as they learnt about how they see their school changing in the next 30 years.

Those ideas came in response to a series of talks and workshops, on themes including: putting insects on the menu in the school canteen; how to make the school uniform more ethical, and building green spaces in urban areas.

The ideas were submitted to the school headteacher in the hope some of them can be implemented.

Part of the event saw the creation of a virtual tree trail, which sees Mr Fry become a yew tree and Mr Paxman imagine himself as a hawthorn, while local MP Anneliese Dodds impersonates a cherry tree.

Meanwhile, Caroline Lawrence, author of The Roman Mysteries, is an oak tree, and novelist Monica Ali a sycamore tree.
