STUDENTS are self-isolating just days after the tragic death of a fellow pupil.

A Year 7 Didcot Girls’ School pupil passed away in the early hours of Friday morning at the John Radcliffe Hospital, after suffering an ‘extremely unusual’ medical episode.

Police said her death is being treated as unexplained, but not suspicious.

Yesterday, Georgina Littler, the school’s headteacher sent a letter to parents and carers regarding two cases of coronavirus.

The letter read: “I am writing to inform you that I have received confirmation that there has been one case of Covid-19 in Year 9 at Didcot Girls’ School and a case in Year 13 at Didcot Sixth Form.

“The cases are from the same family.

“We have completed our contact tracing procedures and followed all relevant guidelines.

“I understand that you will find this concerning, but please rest assured we are continuing to monitor the situation and have been working closely with Public Health South East and the Department for Education to ensure safe operation of the school and to complete contact tracing procedures.

“We have been advised by Public Health England that they are satisfied with the measures we have taken to identify close contacts.”

Families whose children need to self-isolate were written to separately.
