Oxford has been home to an inexhaustible list of celebrities but here are a few you might not realise went to school in the city.

Most Oxonians know comedy legend Ronnie Barker went to Donnington Middle School and the former Southfield Grammar School which merged with City of Oxford Boys. But did you know Emmerdale star and 70s sex symbol Patrick Mower (pictured) also went to the former grammar school?

Oxford Mail:

We all know Radiohead – brothers Colin and Jonny Greenwood, Ed O’Brien, Philip Selway and singer Thom Yorke - met at Abingdon School. But don’t forget Mitchell and Webb, Peep Show and TV comedy panel show stalwart David Mitchell went there too. And what about 80s pop star Thomas Dolby, who had a big hit with She Blinded Me With Science (pictured)?

Oxford Mail:

When it comes to the Dragon School, Harry Potter actress and women’s rights activist Emma Watson (who also went to Headington School) tops the hall of fame.

But don’t forget comedian Jack Whitehall, diplomat-turned-former politician Rory Stewart, heart-throb movie star Tom Hiddleston (pictured) - lately making headlines for a steamy scene in BBC spy thriller The Night Manager and being linked with Taylor Swift  - and acclaimed actor and star of TV comedy Rev, Tom Hollander.

Then there’s the arguably less glamorous ex-pupils who include Princess Beatrice’s husband, property developer Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, leader of the house of commons Jacob Rees-Mogg and the BBC’s science editor David Shukman. The BBC’s world affairs correspondent, who famously reported from Iraq, and later became a newsreader Rageh Omaar went there too.

Meanwhile actor/musician/comedian/author and star of medical drama series House, Hugh Laurie, who was born and grew up in Blackbird Leys, also started his education at the Dragon School.

Yannis Philippakis, frontman of indie rock band Foals, of course, went to Magdalen College School but so did Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes and what about sports commentator Jim Rosenthal (pictured) and BBC Home Affairs correspondent Daniel Sandford?

Oxford Mail:

Did you know 1980s supermodel and wife of Duran Duran singer Simon, Yasmin le Bon (nee Parvaneh, pictured), went to the Cherwell School as did the star of political thriller Homeland, and ex-boyfriend of Keira Knightley, Rupert Friend?

Oxford Mail:

Don’t forget ex-professional player and now football pundit Martin Keown (pictured), who went to St Edmund Campion Catholic School, while many of the musicians from Oxford band Ride, one or two of whom later joined Oasis, went to Cheney.

Oxford Mail:

We all know comedy legend Peter Cook went to Radley College but so did Conservative life peer Simon Wolfson, chief executive of retailer Next. And Made in Chelsea’s Jamie Laing was actually Made in Oxford and also went to Radley.

You might know that award-winning character actor Miriam Margolyes attended Oxford High but had you heard that actress Gugu Mbatha-Raw (pictured), who has appeared in numerous stage and TV productions including Doctor Who, went to The Henry Box School in Witney…
