EMERGENCY services were called to the M40 in the early hours of this morning after another motorway crash.

A van and lorry had left the road near Lewknor at around 5.40am and were down an embankment.

Police officers closed off part of the road and firefighters from stations in Thame, Wheatley, Slade Park and High Wycombe worked to rescue the drivers.

The van had to be stabilised using specialist equipment after it landed on top of the lorry – trapping the driver.

Both drivers were left with paramedics.

Thames Valley Police are investigating what happened to cause the crash.

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue said: “The incident was a great example of the blue light services working together.

“One lane was closed to enable a safe working area for all the emergency responders.

“Thank you for your patience to anyone that was caught up in the traffic as a result.”
