Tributes have been pouring in for former Oxford United player and caretaker manager Micky Lewis, who dedicated many years to the club before he left in 2015.

He has died aged 56.

Micky Lewis served the U's for 27 years - he was a player, caretaker boss twice and was even a stand-in physio.

During his time with the club, he developed a strong bond with United which has been reflected in the wave of memories left by fans, staff, players and more.

After making 351 appearances for the U's, between 1988 and 2000, Micky Lewis held various coaching roles and kept his role as assistant when Chris Wilder arrived in December 2008.

The pair guided United back to the Football League in 2010, via an unforgettable Blue Square Premier play-off final against York City at Wembley.

Micky Lewis took over as caretaker boss for the second time when Wilder left for Northampton Town in January 2014, before making way for Gary Waddock two months later.

The pair maintained their friendship and Wilder, now manager of Premier League side Sheffield United, was devastated by the news.

He said: "I am absolutely heartbroken. He was a brilliant coach but also brilliant company.

"We remained great friends and it was an honour to know him.

"It has happened so quickly and someone who loved life and loved football will be a massive miss to everyone who knew him.

"My thoughts are with Suzy, Zach and the family at this incredibly sad moment."
