A MAN has been jailed after he was caught trying to break into houses on a doorbell camera.

Callum Gomm, of Knights Road, Oxford, attempted to burgle two homes in Long Hanborough in the early hours of January 17.

The 22-year-old was spotted at around 2am walking around the back of a house on Regal Lane before trying to open car doors.

He then walked into the garden where he tried to open the back doors and windows before he found an open garage.

Ten minutes later, Gomm then went to another house on Reliance Way where he was spotted trying to open cars and doors again before running away.

Doorbell footage and forensics helped police identify him and he was arrested the next day.

At Oxford Crown Court he admitted two counts of attempted burglary and yesterday he was jailed for one year and four months.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Lee Dickinson of the Priority Crime Team based at Witney police station, said: “Burglary is a highly invasive crime which has a significant impact on the victims and the local community.

“Thankfully, Gomm was unsuccessful in his attempts at breaking into these properties, but he was identified and charged within a day of the offences taking place.

“I am pleased that although Gomm did not manage to steal any property, the court has seen fit to hand him a custodial sentence as a result of his actions.

“Thames Valley Police will always investigate burglary thoroughly and bring to justice those who seek to commit this crime.”
