A SENIOR minister at a Baptist church in Oxfordshire has resigned over a 'secret' relationship.

Lee Reddyhoff decided to leave his post as a senior minister at Faringdon Baptist Church after it was revealed he engaged in a relationship with a woman from the congregation.

In a letter sent to trustees of the church by secretary Tony Valente, Mr Reddyhoff confirmed his departure and 'acknowledged' that his conduct has fallen 'below that expected' of him.

He said: "I realise that this will cause pain for all of you and for the people of the church.

"I can only say that I am sorry.

"I have been secretive with you all and I have not been open.

"I can only ask for forgivness and I hope that, with time, you will be able to give this."

The letter see by the Oxford Mail also revealed that the woman Mr Reddyhoff had a relationship with has now moved to Scarborough and that he is considering his future outside of ministry.

Furthermore, Mr Reddyhoff has now also resigned as an accredited minister  from the Baptist Union due to the 'gross misconduct'.

Mr Valente commented on the church's plans: "We are making arrangements with Lee in regard to his notice period and vacating the manse.

"However, his role as minister has ceased with immediate effect."
