WHILE the traditional exuberant ceremonies may have fall victim to the coronavirus pandemic, Oxfordshire’s Chinese community has still greeted in the new year in colourful style. And this year’s is of special interest to people in Oxford – being the Year of the Ox.
Among those celebrating are staff at the Rice Box restaurant in Cowley Road, which is continuing to serve takeaways to its loyal local clientele.
The restaurant's Amir Ali said: “We are wishing everyone a happy Chinese New year regardless if whether you are Chinese or not but just to bring cheer to everyone and make everyone feel welcome.”

He said the Rice Box was proud to be a part of the East Oxford community, adding: “Last year during the first lockdown, when Oxford had a limited choice of where to get food, Rice Box was one of the few places that stayed open to deliver food to all sorts of customers.”
He added: “We often get homeless people asking for free food and they never leave empty handed.”
