A ‘SELFISH’ man has been slapped with a fine after refusing to leave a Halloween rave.

Hundreds of people gathered at a warehouse in Yate, South Gloucestershire, on the night of October 31 last year.

Avon and Somerset police say they stopped 200-300 people from going in and broke up the event in the hours that followed.

Two people received £10,000 fines for organising the event, which happened on the night Boris Johnson announced stricter coronavirus restrictions in England.

Six others appeared in the dock of Bristol Magistrates Court last week after travelling long distances from across the country to attend the unlicenced music event.

Oxfordshire-man Ashley Waker was one member of the group charged with obstructing police and failing to leave land when requested.

The 26-year-old of Wychwood Close, Witney, was fined £200.

He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £34 and court costs of £85.

All six men were fined a total of £2,500 for the same crimes as well as assaulting a police officer and criminal damage.

DS Harriet Drewett said: “These six men were selfish in believing it was acceptable to attend an unauthorised music event during the midst of a pandemic, which has claimed thousands of lives.

“Their irresponsible actions on that Halloween evening have left them with a criminal record and hopefully will act as a warning to others.”
