A KITCHEN EXTRACTOR fan burst into flames at the weekend.
Residents noticed smoke coming from the fan and dialled 999.
Now firefighters have warned people to call a professional instead of doing DIY or home improvements to electrical items.
Teams from Oxford Stations Rewley Road and Slade Park were first at house on Saturday night.
The incident commander, station manager Paul Webster said: “Whilst the fire was fairly small and only involved direct burning of electric wiring and the plastic extractor fan unit, it does highlight the importance to have any electrical appliances or improvements completed by a qualified electrician.
“Thankfully, the occupiers noticed smoke coming from the extractor fan and quickly called the fire servie.”
He warned that if it is an electrical fire then ‘pull the plug out’ if it is safe or switch off the power at the fuse box.
Never put water on an electrical fire and always call 999.
