The funeral of the peace campaigner and former Vicar of East Hagbourne, the Reverend David Platt, will be held on Thursday, at St Andrews Church, in the village, near Didcot.

There will be a private family burial in nearby Upton, with those who knew Rev Platt asked to light a candle for him on that day.

The Rev Platt was a stalwart anti-militarist. He retired to St Michaels and All Angels, New Marston, Oxford, before moving to a care home. He died on February 4.

Elaine Bardwell, Vicar of St Michael and All Angels, said she would celebrate Rev Platt’s life in the future, when it is possible for people to attend.

Vicar Elaine Bardwell, from St Michael & All Angels, Marston Road, said: "Many of us have fond memories of him when he was with us here at St. Michael’s.

I will always remember his kindness, good humour and his huge talent as a musician.

A deeply spiritual man who was a life-long peace activist, he can now once again be with his beloved wife Gill.

May he rest in peace as one of God’s good and faithful servants."
