A MAN sexually assaulted a child while they watched a film in the same bed, a court heard.

Oxford Crown Court was told that Ashley Bourton, 22, of Wigod Way, Wallingford, sexually assaulted a child under 13 on August 23, 2018. He denies the charge.

Three witnesses, who cannot be named for legal reasons, took to the stand yesterday to give evidence.

The court heard that the alleged victim had been watching a film in Mr Bourton's bed.

A witness told the court that they went to check on the girl but when they got to the door of the bedroom, they saw the girl get up from the bed with her leggings and knickers down around her knees.

The witness was asked whether the girl was upset and whether she was crying, to which they said ‘no’.

The witness said Mr Bourton stayed under the duvet before he ‘popped his head up’ over it, looking ‘like a deer in headlights’.

When asked whether Mr Bourton looked like he had been sleeping, the witness said ‘no’.

The witness said the girl left the room and did not ask Mr Bourton what happened, despite concern.

The court heard that the date of the incident was unclear as two witnesses gave different dates to those given in their original statements.

The defence said the incident happened on August 9, 2018, but both witnesses denied this, insisting it took place on August 23.

The jury was told that the alleged victim had pulled up her skirt on five occasions at school in 2017.

The court heard that on August 28, the girl told a witness what had happened with Mr Bourton and that she also told another witness the same day.

That witness said: “She told me Ashley touched her private body parts and kissed her bum.”

The trial continues today at 10.15am.
