AN URGENT update on a key interchange on the A34 is needed as residents grow 'increasingly anxious', an MP in Oxfordshire has said.

Layla Moran, Liberal Democrat MP for Oxford West and Abingdon, has written to Highways England and Oxfordshire County Council asking for a progress update on the Lodge Hill A34 diamond junction.

Funding for the construction was secured three years ago and Ms Moran called for dates of the forthcoming public consultation to be released as soon as possible.

The MP said: "Lodge Hill is a vital project that my constituents have been waiting on for three years now.

"With new housing going up in North Abingdon, we need to have this infrastructure in place.

"I understand that a public consultation is forthcoming - we need to know the dates, and I’ve sought reassurance that the consultation will be designed so that all residents have the opportunity to have their say despite coronavirus restrictions.

"Frankly, Abingdon residents deserve better than these ongoing delays."
