POLICE officers had to pull a lorry through the ice at Oxford services.

The blue HGV was rescued by roads policing officers on the M40 earlier today after 'struggling' with the ice.

Using a green tow strap, the officers slowly drove the lorry to safety - allowing the queues of lorries behind to getaway.

It comes after the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for ice across Oxfordshire, which will stay in force until 10am tomorrow.

Taking to Twitter, Thames Valley Police wrote: "Roads policing officers attended Cherwell Valley Services on the M40 where Goods Vehicles were struggling with the ice.

"One HGV was assisted allowing the backlog able to leave. #P5240."
