ANOTHER week under lockdown, another week of updates about the coronavirus pandemic.
Yet despite all the negativity, there has been a lot of optimistic news from Oxfordshire.
Here are the happiest stories from this week:
1. Snow falls in Oxfordshire
Snow fell in Oxfordshire this morning leaving the county looking like a winter wonderland.
2. 94-year-old woman beats Covid
A 94-year-old woman from Bampton beat coronavirus.
Winifred Jones tested positive for Covid-19 on New Year’s Eve after a troublesome cough.
Now though, after making a full recovery, she is getting back into her old routine by doing plenty of exercise.
3. Covered Market sends care packages to Covid wards
Businesses in the Covered Market have been lending a helping hand to NHS staff working on critical care wards.
Bonners Oxford Fruit and Vegetables and the Oxford Sandwich Company, based in the Covered Market, paired up with the Oxford Hospital Charity to deliver fruit and vegetable baskets, as well as wellbeing boxes for the nurses.
4. Six-year-old girl raises money from the homeless
A six-year-old girl from Oxford has raised over £3,000 for the homeless.
Aria Hahn ran 10 miles in 10 days to raise money for The Gatehouse, a charity that supports those who are homeless or vulnerable houses in Oxford.
Aria Hahn began helping the homeless by giving out hot chocolate and food for people rough sleeping but felt this was not enough.
5. Community testing in Oxford to open next month
The service will use a rapid lateral flow test to help identify people who have Covid but display no symptoms.
By detecting infectious individuals early, isolating them, and tracing their contacts, the transmission of the virus can be reduced.
