Members of the Banbury St John Ambulance nursing team won two major awards at the organisation’s annual competition in 1970.
The five – left to right, Joan Sherratt, Margaret Hughes, Elizabeth Amos, Jennifer Clarke and Sonia Sharman – won the Gardiner-Hill Cup in the nursing tests and the Turner Cup for neatness of uniform.

The Banbury division had a successful day, adding the Furley Cup in the ambulance test and the Briggs Cup for neatness of uniform to its collection. The main hall at Wood Green School, Witney looked like a scene of devastation, with scenarios including a ‘major road accident’ and ‘a cook suffering a heart attack in a kitchen.’
