KIND-HEARTED hairdressers have swapped their scissors for snacks as they deliver food packages to the needy of Colchester.

Staff from ID Hairdressing, in Priory Walk, put a message on social media saying they wanted to help and their post reached nearly 11,000 people.

Selfless staff dipped into their own pockets to supply the goodies and they are now being delivered to homes throughout the community.

They are dropping food off on a daily basis and have already supplied goods to more than 50 homes.

ID Hairdressing director Ian Duggan admitted being overwhelmed by the response.

He said: "As a family, we've been watching the news and were shocked by some of the images of the children’s free school meal packages.

"Demi, our little girl, said we should help and so, after speaking to the team, we decided we should do something for our community.

"The following morning, we posted via our Facebook page and Instagram, offering support to anyone with children who needed help in the Colchester area.

"The post has so far reached just under 11,000 people, due to the community sharing it, and we've managed to deliver to over 50 families.

"We're still delivering on a daily basis.

"At this time, we feel we should all be helping each other get through the crisis and we're only too happy to play a small part.

"The most amazing thing for us is the way people shared the post.

"The power of social media is overwhelming theses days and it's beautiful that so many people want to help."
