AN OXFORDSHIRE zoo has released material to help parents that are homeschooling.

Crocodiles of the World in Brize Norton has put together educational videos, in addition to crocodile-themed worksheets and quizzes.

Colin Stevenson, head of education at Crocodiles of the World, said: “Crocodiles possess some truly mind-blowing biology, from the most complex heart on the planet, an almost endless supply of teeth, clever blood and circulation, to an ability to learn and be trained.

“They can teach us so much about the world, after all they have been here for a very long time.

“We know how much school pupils enjoy their educational visits here during term time and so we wanted to help them be inspired by crocodiles whilst they are learning from home.

“Whilst the zoo is closed we aim to keep sharing our passion, and who knows, maybe we’ll even inspire the next generation of croc keepers.”

The zoo’s founder, Shaun Foggett, added: “It’s a really difficult time for us, especially as we approach half-term which is always the start of our busy period, but we are trying to remain optimistic in the hope that this will be the last lockdown and that better times are ahead.

“We are so grateful for all the support we continue to receive from the public and these videos are a way we can give something back to the community.

“We look forward to welcoming visitors back, but when that will be, we just don’t know.”

Alongside the aim to educate and inspire, Crocodiles of the World is dedicated to the conservation of crocodiles, helping to ensure the continuing survival of all crocodile species in the wild.

Since opening in 2011, the collection has grown year-on-year and is now home to 19 crocodile species.
