It was a tipple with the winning taste – Doreen Welsh’s wine impressed the judges at a village show and earned her top prize.

It wasn’t the only success Mrs Welsh, the show secretary, enjoyed that afternoon – she also won the Master Gardener Trophy. Other winners included Vic Belcher (vegetables) and John White and Eileen Smith (roses).

The show, which attracted a large number of exhibits from new young members, was run in conjunction with Blewbury football club’s annual fete, which raised £108 for club funds.
