THAMES Valley Police has refused to say how many fines were handed out to rule-breakers on New Year’s Eve.

The force was asked by this paper how many fines had been handed out to people who were caught flouting the rules and meeting up socially with friends on December 31.

A spokesperson confirmed that the number of fixed penalty notices issued could not be revealed, instead, the data is being compiled separately and released by The National Police Chiefs Council (NPCC).

As of yesterday, the NPCC has not yet published any data.

TVP has previously urged people in Oxfordshire, Buckingham and Berkshire to tell on their neighbours if they are suspicious they are breaking the rules.

In lockdown, people cannot meet up socially or leave their homes without a valid reason.
