THE number of people claiming unemployment benefit in Oxfordshire has hit a new six-year low.
Latest official figures show there were 3,366 people claiming benefit in November, a drop of 51 on the previous month.
The count is at its lowest since December 2001.
Overall, there are 872 fewer people making claims than a year ago and it is the ninth month in a row that the figure has fallen.
Nationally, the figure hit a 32-year low, falling by 11,100 to 813,000, the lowest since the summer of 1975 and the 14th consecutive monthly cut.
Total unemployment, including those not claiming benefit, fell by 15,000 in the quarter to October to 1.64 million, the lowest for more than a year.
The total number of jobs in the UK also reached a record high of more than 31 million, while the number of vacancies grew to more than 680,000 last month, the highest since 2001.
