AS THE New Year sets in across the world, thousands of people make New Year's resolutions they hope to keep for the next year.

These are the most common New Year's resolutions British people made last year, according to a YouGov poll. 

  1. Exercise more:

This was the most common resolution British people made last year with 47 per cent of people saying they would want to exercise more in the new year.

2. Losing weight:

This was the second most common resolution, with 44 per cent of people saying they wanted to loose more weight over the course of the next year. 

3. Improving diets:

41 per cent of Brits said they wanted to improve their diets. This means the top three resolutions of British people focus on health and diet.

4. Save more money:

A third of people said they wanted to save more money in 2020.

5. Taking up a new hobby:

18 per cent of people said they would like to take up a new hobby in the next year.

6. Cutting down on drinking alcohol:

16 per cent of Brits said they wanted to reduce their alcohol intake.

7. Giving up smoking or vaping:

14 per cent of people said they wanted to give up smoking or vaping.

8. Pursuing a career ambition:

Just over 11 per cent of British people said they wanted to pursue a career ambiion.

9. Decorating or renovating homes:

11 per cent of people said that one of their resolutions was to decorate or renovate their homes.

10. Spend more time with family:

11 per cent of people also said they wanted to spend more time with their family in the new year.

The poll also showed that young Britsh people aged between 18-24 are most likely to make a resolution with 47 per cent saying they will make resolutions, compared to 30 per cent of 35 to 44 year olds and just 18 per cent of those aged over 65.

Women are also slightly more likely to make a resolution at 30 per cent compared to 24 per cent of men.
