Oxford City Council says people should avoid the towpaths because the flood water makes it impossible to determine where the edge of the towpath is, making them extremely dangerous.

Oxford has previously had fatal incidents as a result of people trying to use flooded towpaths.

Officers from Oxford Direct Services (ODS), the city council’s wholly-owned company, worked on Christmas Day to install the temporary flooding barrier at Bullstake Close.

Oxford Mail:

River levels have stabilised and are falling today, but the council is continuing to monitor the situation closely.
