The owner of the Beirut Lebanese restaurant in Headington is 'very happy' that the restaurant has received top marks for its hygiene rating for the second time in a row.

The Lebanese restaurant on Osler Road in Headington has five star reviews online and a five star hygiene rating from an inspection by Oxford City Council on November 2.

The restaurant serves a combination of Lebanese, Levantine, and Mediterranean-inspired dishes.

However, the restaurant has not always been perfect.

In June 2019, a cockroach infestation forced the restaurant to shut after environmental health officers from Oxford City Council found cockroaches in the kitchen.

A customer complained and on inspection the council found an active infestation of cockroaches in the kitchen posing a significant risk of food contamination.

A hygiene emergency prohibition notice was issued requiring immediate closure of the restaurant.

Following a hearing at Oxford Magistrates’ Court, the court issued a formal closure order.

The restaurant remained closed until the infestation was controlled and environmental health officers were satisfied that all risks to public health had been removed.

A specialist company visited the premises to deal with the infestation and the Beirut Lebanese restaurant was open again in the summer of 2019 and later received a five star hygiene rating from Oxford City Council on October 2, 2019.

This year the restaurant has done it again and received another five star hygiene rating.

Putting the past behind, the owner of the Beirut Lebanese restaurant, Franco Humrash said: "I am very happy with the results, we have always had good results and this is the second time we have had five stars."

Mr Humrash hopes the Five star rating will attract more customers to try his traditional Lebanese food.

He said: "Lockdown is affecting us, but so far we are doing very good.

"We are the best Lebanese restaurant in the whole of Oxford and Oxfordshire."

He added: "It is because my mum does the cooking so they are original recipes and delicious."

The Headington restaurant is open for business and offers takeaway through Just Eat and will be on Deliveroo in the new year.
