BAREFOOT Bakery has opened another cafe over the second lockdown.

The bakery, which is renowned for its coffee shop in Jericho, has now opened a new site in North Parade.

Fraser Jones, the owner of the cafe, said that although they ‘were aware of the limitations’ of opening the new cafe in the middle of the pandemic, they decided to continue with their plans.

Mr Jones said: “We closed our Jericho store back in March, at the beginning of the lockdown, because the layout of the shop is not easy to work with social distancing, and the landlord was doing some work on the whole building anyway.

“It was a bit unknown about opening during a pandemic because we really had no idea how many people would be out and about after the lockdown ended.

“We were ready to open before the November lockdown was announced, but because it was the second lockdown and we knew how it was going to work this time we weren’t too concerned.”

The cafe opened on November 4, the day before the country went into a four-week lockdown.

Since the lockdown ended, however, the cafe has not changed anything.

Mr Jones said: “We haven’t actually changed anything since the lockdown because we are currently doing takeaway only.

“It is a very small site and as we are still in tier two it would only be people from the same households sitting in, so we would only be able to fit a few people in any way and there’s quite a lot of paperwork to fill out about this.

“So we are going to wait until all the restrictions are gone before we open for sit-ins.”

“I think people were pleased to travel in as well, we had locals travelling in and people from far and wide.

“We have had people come in from Banbury, Portsmouth, and Bedford.

“We are really, really grateful to all our customers who have supported us over lockdown by ordering online and were there to support us the second we opened the cafe.

Mr and Mrs Jones who were both born in Oxford started the business seven years ago. Mrs Jones started trading at the farmers market on North Parade and the business ‘slowly grew from there’.

The couple opened the Jericho cafe in 2015.
