A CHARITY is calling on people in Oxfordshire to help it protect children and young people from abuse and neglect.

The NSPCC is encouraging people to sign up and become a volunteer to lead creative fundraising events.

Money raised is vital to help it continue supporting children in need during the Christmas season and beyond.

Around 90 per cent of NSPCC and Childline income comes from donations and despite restrictions brought on by the pandemic, the charity has continued to still be there for children.

Craft O’Clock is just one fundraising idea taking place in December.

The initiative calls on all knitters, painters, upcyclers and everyone who loves to get crafty and asks them to create items to sell for donations.

There are loads of other ideas centred around this creative fundraising venture and more information can be found online.

For children facing abuse, the days are hard. But the long winter nights can be the longest, loneliest hours of all.

On December 21, join the NSPCC and walk for every childhood. If you are unable to commit to this date, you can pick one that is more convenient for you and your group.

Emma Alexandra, community fundraising manager for Oxfordshire, said: “We currently live in a time where there is still an unprecedented number of children and young people suffering from abuse, neglect, online grooming and bullying and although figures from local police forces and our own statistics have revealed some of the reality there are still children suffering in hidden corners.

“It’s time for us to work together and rebuild our society so it’s better for our children. With your help, we can combat child abuse and create a better and safer world for the next generation - Because no child should be left to cope alone. We are here for children and you can be too by joining us today.”
