THE NUMBER of new coronavirus cases in Oxfordshire continues to fall.

On Thursday, 100 people in the county had for Covid-19 but by 9am on Friday only extra 61 people had tested positive.

The rate of infection in Oxfordshire now stands at 1,463 cases per 100,000 people, far lower than the England average of 2,430.

The latest coronavirus cases on Friday:

Oxford - 26

• Oxfordshire – 61

• South East – 1,800

• UK – 16,022

This brings the total number of people who have tested positive to:

• Oxford – 3,266

• Oxfordshire – 10,119

• South East – 129,353

• UK – 1,589,301

A total of 451 people died in England after 28 days of a positive test result yesterday.

But there were no new deaths in the county.

Two have been confirmed this week – one in Oxford and the other in South Oxfordshire, as reported on Tuesday.

NHS data revealed there were no new deaths at Oxfordshire hospitals so the two people either passed away at home or in a care home.

This brings the total death toll of people who have died within 28 days of a positive test to:

• Oxford – 42

• Oxfordshire – 310

• South East – 5,914

• UK – 57,551

Separate data has revealed 1,244 patients were in South East hospitals with the virus.

Of those, 110 were on ventilation.
