FOUR people have died following an outbreak of coronavirus at one care home.

Shinfield View Care Home has confirmed two further deaths since the outbreak was reported earlier this month.

It comes after the Reading Chronicle reported on the outbreak which saw 45 people test positive on November 3.

This included 18 staff members.

It is understood this figure of 45 positive cases has also risen since the initial report at the School Green care home. Although it has confirmed no further coronavirus cases have been reported this week.

Berkley Care Group chief executive Andrew Winstanley, owners of Shinfield View Care Home, said: “We are completely devastated to say goodbye to four of our friends.

"Our love and prayers are with the families of those who have passed as well as those whose family members are still fighting the virus.

"Please be assured that we shall continue to do everything we possibly can to ensure the outbreak remains contained and under control in the safest and most effective way. Along with public health teams we’re working tirelessly to support our residents and their families."

He added: "We’re also greatly encouraged that we have had no additional positive residents and are very happy to be welcoming so many of our dedicated staff back to work.

"We’d like to take this opportunity to pass on our sincerest thanks to all relatives for their unfaltering support and understanding, both that and the work ethic of our caring staff has shown that the Shinfield View community really is a close-knit family."

The care home has said it is working closely with Wokingham Borough Council’s adult social care and public health teams as well as an infection Control Nurse from Clinical Commission Group and Berkshire Healthcare Foundation Trust to contain the outbreak and continue to operate safely.

Each resident is currently being 'barrier nursed' and tests are being carried out regularly. The care home has also said that of the majority of staff who had been self isolating are starting to return to work.

All families with residents in Shinfield View have been informed and are being kept up-to-date.
