TWO men on trial for alleged historical sex abuse involving a teenage girl have been cleared of all charges.

One of the men - Anthony Ford - was jailed, however, after he previously admitted to one count of abusing the child.

Jurors returned not guilty verdicts to all of the other counts as their trial at Oxford Crown Court came to an end today.

Ford, 63, of Fieldmere Close, Witney, had always denied the three counts of rape and one count of attempted rape alleged against him.

He previously admitted to one count involving the same alleged victim - indecency with a child.

Leighton James, 36, of Stocks Walk, Carterton, denied one count of procuring a girl under 21 to have unlawful sexual intercourse.

During the case, which began last week, it was said that the alleged historical sex abuse took place in the early 2000s in West Oxfordshire.

All of the allegations involved one teenage girl, now a woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons.

Prosecutors claimed that the alleged victim's ordeal lasted about eight months.

Talking to the police about her allegations she described a number of incidents of alleged sexual abuse - including repeated rapes - all involving Ford.

She said that she would usually be paid into her bank account and she described the alleged abuse as 'routine.'

She said that Mr James had 'procured' her for Ford so that he would pay money for sex with the woman, in order to buy drugs.

After deliberating for three hours and 26 minutes jurors found the men not guilty.

Presiding Judge Michael Gledhill QC went on to jail Ford for 18 months for the single incident whereby Ford invited the girl to perform a sex act on him.

He must also pay a victim surcharge.
