A MAJOR road could have its speed limit reduced in north Oxfordshire.

Oxfordshire County Council is consulting on plans to drop the 60mph zone on the A361, near junction 11 of the M40 for Banbury, to 40 and 50mph.

The proposed changes come as nearby land is developed for commercial use, with two bus stops also suggested.

Under the plans, a 40mph speed limit would be implemented about 80 metres east of the M40 interchange and continue for roughly 550m northwards and eastwards.

A 50mph zone would come in, heading north, and meet the same speed limit at the Northamptonshire border.

The bus stops would come with a 'no stopping except buses' restriction.

The A361 runs through the north west section of Oxfordshire and passes Burford, Chipping Norton and Banbury.
