There were more than 100 new cases at Oxford University last week as a problem with recording the data remains unresolved.

In the seven days to Friday, November 13, there were 126 new positive tests confirmed by the university's own testing service.

This was from 420 tests and gave a weekly positivity rate of 30 per cent.

Infections have continued to fall, with last week 146 new cases at the university and 212 the week before that.

There have been total of 980 since the university started testing on August 20.

A note with the date stated: "University testing figures do not correspond exactly to those reported for Oxford as a whole.

"We are working with Public Health England to resolve the issue."

Public Health England confirmed earlier this month that 'a number of' positive Oxford University’s own testing results have only been added to the national total and not local figures.

Though they were all passed on for contact tracing it has meant Oxford, and the county as a whole, has had an lower total since September than is actually the case.

It has been estimated by Oxfordshire County Council that in the seven days up to November 6, 237 new cases recorded in Oxford could actually have been as high as 387 once the university's cases are included.

The problem is understood to date back to September 13 and is expected to be fixed within the next couple of weeks.
