POLICE have arrested a man after five sex attacks on runners in Didcot

Last night Thames Valley Police arrested a man believed to be in his 20s and from Didcot on suspicion of sexual assault. 

It comes after a string of incidents along popular running routes. 

In all five known assaults, women aged between 22 and 54 were inappropriately touched over their clothing by a man wearing a surgical mask.

The incidents mapped, click on the pinpoint for more information: 

  • The first happened at 7pm on Tuesday on Wantage Road, near the traffic lights by the UTC.
  • An hour later, another two incidents were reported in Broadway, both opposite the fire station.
  • A fourth woman was targeted that same night at about 8.15pm in Wantage Road near to Didcot Hospital.
  • The fifth attack happened on Thursday night on Newlands Avenue just before 8pm.

Sergeant McMaster, based Thames Valley Police Vale of White Horse, confirmed on Facebook that the man had been arrested at 10pm. 

He is being questioned by officers in custody. 

Police can hold somebody in custody for 24 hours before applying to the Magistrates' Court for more time. 

Detective Sergeant Nathan Adby, of Abingdon police station, said: “We continue to investigate these incidents of sexual assault, and officers have now made an arrest of a man in connection with them.

“A police presence will remain in the community as officers carry out reassurance patrols.
