A PRIMARY school is set to grow by almost 100 pupils as part of a £3 million programme of renovations.

Work has been commissioned at Hanborough Manor CE School following the surge in new houses being built in the village of Long Hanborough.

Architectural designs outline a 5,877 square foot single-storey building, which will house five classrooms.

The brief also includes the installation of a new multi-use games area as well as a Sports England pitch for outdoor activities.

There will also be improvement works to the main building, including extending and remodelling the kitchen.

An existing classroom will be converted into library space and a one-to-one room for individual or group study.

Currently, the total pupil capacity for the school is 210, however this is set to expand to a maximum of 315.

A series of new housing estates in West Oxfordshire, in particular the Hanborough Gate and Hanborough Park developments, have seen a rise in demand for places.

Blenheim Estate’s Hanborough Gate will see 169 houses built by the end of next year, while Bloor Homes’ Hanborough Park is an estate of 128 new houses.

Lorraine Lindsay-Gale, Oxfordshire County Council’s cabinet member for education and cultural services, said: “I’m delighted to share these exciting plans for Hanborough Manor School, reflecting our commitment and determination to provide a top of the class learning and teaching environment for Oxfordshire’s children.”

Oxford Mail:

In line with Government restrictions in place for Covid-19, construction traffic will be completely segregated from the school site, with additional access points created.

Building work is scheduled to be complete in time for the next academic year in 2021.

The county council has appointed Morgan Sindall Construction as the main contractor for the works, with architectural designs produced by Collado Collins.

Roofing will be constructed using structural insulated panels, a thermally efficient timber-based construction material.

James York, area director at Morgan Sindall Construction, said: “Our work to extend Hanborough Manor will help the school to meet demand for pupil places driven by an increase in population.

“The additional space will be bright, modern and sustainable due to the carbon conscious design and use of timber.

“We’re incredibly pleased to be working with the council on another key education project and look forward to delivering it safely and efficiently over the next 12 months.”

The revamp at Hanborough Manor is the latest in a series of school projects completed across Oxfordshire recently.

A new teaching block, including two classrooms, toilets, cloakrooms and storage space, opened at Marcham CE Primary School in Abingdon.

This was done to accommodate an additional 70 pupils.

Meanwhile, at Longworth Primary School, also in Abingdon, a classroom extension has been built, interlinked with the existing school building.

The new extension accommodates 30 pupils with two separate toilet areas.
