CAMPAIGNERS are fighting back against an American company that has appealed against refusal to build a massive water park resort in an Oxfordshire village.

Great Wolf Resorts (GWR) wants to build a Great Wolf Lodge in Chesterton, near Bicester comprising an indoor water park and a 498-room hotel.

Residents who oppose the project formed a 'Keep the Wolf from the Door' campaign last year and have now launched an online petition against GWR's appeal in a bid to put pressure on bosses that the plans are not welcome.

It has been signed by more than 530 people.

Melanie Webb, who signed the petition said: "This is completely inappropriate for a small village in the UK. It will destroy the quiet countryside and locals will not get the benefit from it either. Not wanted. Not needed."

The plan received stacks of criticism from residents and parish councils who opposed, and the council received more than 800 objections.

Councillor Colin Clarke, Cherwell’s lead member for planning, said the resort would have been a 'large intrusion' into an area of open countryside.

The Planning Inspector will now decide whether to approve the project.
