A MAN on trial for repeatedly raping a teenage girl told jurors he was trying to 'degrade and disgust' her.

From the witness box Anthony Ford said his alleged victim was not repulsed by him and that he thought the sex was 'purely consensual.'

He went on to claim that the girl - who cannot be named for legal reasons - would 'give me a kiss afterwards.'

Prosecutors allege that the 63-year-old of Fieldmere Close, Witney sexually abused the girl and that she would get money to pay for another man's drugs.

Ford denies three counts of rape and one count of attempted rape.

He has admitted another count involving the same alleged victim - indecency with a child.

Another man, Leighton James, 36, of Stocks Walk, Carterton, denies one count of procuring a girl under 21 to have unlawful sexual intercourse.

The offences are all alleged to have taken place in the early 2000s in West Oxfordshire.

As their trial at Oxford Crown Court continued yesterday Ford went to the witness box to give his version of events.

He was asked when he had 'disgraced himself' with the alleged victim.

Ford detailed an occasion where he said he had been 'foolish' and asked the teenager to perform a sex act on him.

He went on to tell jurors that it was later that the pair engaged in sexual activity a number of times, and he said he believed it was 'purely consensual.'

The jury was told that the alleged victim would regularly ask Ford for money and he said he would give her cash if he had it.

He said that he would give her £20 and that he believed she would use it to 'score' - to buy drugs.

Ford recalled an occasion where the alleged victim, he said, took her clothes off and said 'do you want to have sex with me for £20?'

He told jurors that he replied 'why not?'

Asked why he didn't simply give her the money he answered: "I was trying to degrade her and disgust her" and that he thought he would 'put her off.'

He explained that he suffered a heart attack during that activity and was taken to hospital.

Ford told jurors that the alleged victim was not paid 'every time' he had sex with her and she did not ask for money every time.

He denied that she showed 'distress or revulsion' and said it was 'purely consensual.'

Asked why he thought that he said: "She had to help me and especially when in the missionary position.

"She gave me a kiss afterwards."

The trial continues.
