JENGA has just been inducted into the United States National Toy Hall of Fame.

Jenga is only one of three games in the National Toy Hall of Fame to have been devised by a woman.

It is also the only game to have been created by a British person, and they live in Oxford.

Leslie Scott created Jenga based on wooden blocks from her childhood in Africa.

The word jenga is the imperative form of kujenga, the Swahili verb 'to build'. The game challenges players to remove one block at a time from a tower without knocking it down.

Each year, the prestigious hall inducts new honorees and showcases both new and historic versions of classic toys beloved by generations. Anyone can nominate a toy to the National Toy Hall of Fame. Final selections are made on the advice of historians, educators.

Of the 71 Toys and Playthings that have been inducted into the National Toy Hall of Fame to date, jenga is one of only 17 games.

Unlike chess, checkers, dominoes, playing cards and jacks, jenga is one of only 12 of these games to have been created since 1900.
