PUPILS at an Oxfordshire primary school have painted pebbles before scattering them across the school grounds as a Remembrance Day memorial.

Children at Glory Farm Primary School in Bicester were busy in the run up to Remembrance Sunday researching and thinking of designs to paint on their pebbles to reflect those who have fallen.

All children then used their ideas to carefully paint their pebble.

Gemma May, who is responsible for developing the pupils' awareness of British values, said: “The activity has been engaging for all children across the school and a unique way of remembering those who we have lost.

"I have been really impressed with how it has developed all children’s understanding as well as the thought which has gone into producing every single pebble – they are all beautiful and will act as a reminder when we see them across the school every day.”

The reception class ten scattered the pebbles around the school grounds.

People are urged to mark Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day in Oxfordshire and that if celebrated outdoors, social distancing must be maintained.

The county council says that despite restrictions on community gatherings this year, residents are encouraged to continue to mark the days appropriately.

People can take part in remote and socially distanced remembrance activities such as watching services on television, or pausing for the two minutes' silence in their home or on their doorsteps.

Councillor Ian Hudspeth, leader of Oxfordshire County Council, said: “It is important that we continue to remember the sacrifice of those who have died in the service of their country.

"We can still ensure that Remembrance Sunday is appropriately commemorated while protecting public health.”
