A CHUNK of land on a major housing estate in southern Oxfordshire has been sold off.

Developers St. Modwen and Crabhill Developments sold the 10.23-acre site at Kingsgrove, Wantage, to Taylor Wimpey for £17 million.

The estate is being built on the eastern fringe of the town and will consist of more than 1,500 homes, alongside shops, a pub, a park and communal areas.

The development also includes sports pitches, a playground, a multi-use games area and car parking.

A 'first-class' primary school, which can accommodate up to 420 primary students and has 26 nursery spaces, also opened doors in the heart of the community in September.

Taylor Wimpey bought the next phase of the delivery of the new homes in the 227-acre scheme.

The first three phases, totalling 428 homes, are currently being developed by St. Modwen Homes, CALA Homes and Bellway Homes since a start on site in 2018.

Following the purchase, Taylor Wimpey will be the fourth housebuilder on site.

Gary Needham, land director at Taylor Wimpey, commented: "We are delighted to be involved in the new Kingsgrove development and delivering the next phase of new homes.

"This high quality landscape-led scheme presented an excellent opportunity to work with St. Modwen, and it is clear that our aspirations for design and place-making are well aligned."

The director added that Taylor Wimpey was very pleased to add this phase of Kingsgrove to its growing portfolio and was looking forward to beginning work on-site.
