COLLEAGUES of a man who lost his beloved wife of 11 years and three of his children in a deadly crash near Oxford are behind a charity golf day that aims to raise money for the family.

Rail worker Joshua Powell, 30, and his 18-month old daughter, Penny, were the only survivors of a horrific collision on the A40 on October 12.

To help support the family through this difficult time Chelmsford-based Construction Sport is organising a charity golf day at the Belfry Golf Club in Derbyshire.

The event on Wednesday, December 16, will begin at 8.45am to pack in as much golfing action as possible.

The group behind the fundraiser are the Orange Army – the self-appointed name given to the operatives in the rail industry.

Steve Kerslake, founder of Construction Sport, commented: "The railway engineering world is a very small, tight knit industry.

"You can go anywhere to work in the country and guarantee you will bump into someone in orange that you know.

"This tight bond is the exact reason we wanted to help, we understand that the industry is full of good people, people who when contacted do not batter an eye lid, they understand how important it is to support each other at the toughest times.

"In order to ensure this event is a success we are appealing to the businesses out there that can help support Josh and Penny by supporting our day through one of the many sponsorship packages we have.

"We want ensure Josh and Penny can concentrate on their recovery and not be worried about anything else."
